ST. THOMAS – The Department of Public Works (DPW) is advising the community of continuing road work on Mafolie Road. Although the department has been in coordination with AT&T contractor, BLDM, a change in plans now requires trenching on the newly paved portion of Mafolie Hill. This trenching is necessary to make a connection with a nearby tower in the Hospital Ground area. BLDM will be responsible for repaving and striping the full lane where trenching occurred.
BLDM is scheduled to perform trenching on the Southbound lane from March 22 – 24, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. During this time, a single-lane closure will be in effect from Mafolie Hotel to Pilgrms Terrace. Asphalt restoration from Louisenhoj Castle down to Pilgrims Terrace is scheduled for early April. If possible, we recommend using alternate traffic routes to avoid this area during the times designated for road work. Please exercise extreme caution if you must use this route during the designated times.
The department understands the community’s concerns and the inconveniences caused by this project. DPW continues to meet with the contractor to ensure the road work is completed expeditiously and roadways are restored fully.
