Parking area west of the Grand Galleria to be closed permanently
ST. THOMAS – As work on the Main Street Enhancement Project advances, the Department of Public Works (DPW) would like to announce the closure of a popular parking area in the downtown vicinity of St. Thomas.
Beginning Monday, January 21, motorists will no longer be allowed to park on the western side of the Grand Galleria (formerly the Grand Hotel). This closure will allow for the installation of a blue bit stone plaza and underground utilities. Arrangements for alternate parking, along the south side of the Grand Galleria, are being made to temporarily accommodate U.S. Postal Service – Emancipation Garden customers.
“The construction of the blue bit stone plaza is part of the ongoing beautifications being made to the Main Street corridor,” said Commissioner Nelson Petty Jr. “It is our intent that, once completed, the plaza will add to the overall enhancement of the downtown St. Thomas area.”
DPW will continue to keep the community updated as this project progresses and as they work to improve conditions throughout the territory. For more information on the Main Street Enhancement Project follow DPW on Facebook @usvidpw, or log on to the department’s website.
