Course ID: Grant_Writing_How_to_Get_Started

This module is for those interested in learning how to tackle a grant or funding application.

Writing a grant or funding application can seem like an impossible task if you have never completed one before.  It can seem daunting even if you have completed one or more but weren’t given any guidance on how to approach the project.  In this eLearning, learn the basics of how to tackle and complete a grant or funding application.  Topics will cover reviewing and understanding what your application requires, organization to collect the application’s information, readability of your application, and considerations for strengthening your application’s chances of being funded.  You won’t become a grant or application writing expert, but you will take away a method for approaching and completing applications.

This course material is provided by Victoria Beale of the Ohio LTAP Center.  Victoria has over seventeen years of experience in grant and application writing with many successful awards which have provided LTAP’s grant funded courses.

Course Title: CLAS Asphalt Materials and Paving Mixtures

Course ID: CLAS_AMP

Asphalt concrete is a composite material commonly used to surface roads, parking lots, airports, and the core of embankment dams. Asphalt mixtures have been used in pavement construction since the beginning of the 20th century.

The correct asphalt mixture can provide a number of benefits for a road, such as resistance to permanent deformation, fatigue cracking, low temperature cracking, and moisture; durability; and good surface texture. As you’ll learn in this training, the objective of the mixture design process is to select an aggregate gradation and binder content (with or without modifiers) to achieve these properties so that pavements last longer.

This course will review the characteristics and engineering properties of asphalt mixtures and their effects when utilized in highway applications, as well as the overall mix design concepts and how construction operations can affect the ultimate performance of asphalt mixture pavements.

This course is intended for a variety of positions within local agencies and tribal governments, with an emphasis on the role of the materials engineer, as well as anyone involved in the mix design, placement, or rehabilitation of asphalt pavement. Training includes:

  1. Asphalt Mixtures
  2. Asphalt Binders and Selection
  3. Design Concepts
  4. Production, Delivery, and Placement
  5. Quality Assurance and Acceptance
