Melvin Evans Highway St. Croix
The Department of Public Works is updating the community on the Melvin Evans Highway (MEH) Reconstruction and Rehabilitation project. DPW Contractor — VI Paving, Inc. (VIP) — is currently reconstructing failed areas of the highway in the Good Hope area.
The westbound lane at the Carlton Intersection remains closed to traffic. Motorists will be detoured onto Centerline Road. VIP is expected to begin paving the highway from Williams Delight to Good Hope in the next few weeks.
The scope of work for this sixth and final section of this MEH project, will include road reconstruction, milling, asphalt paving, striping, drainage rehabilitation, signs, guardrails, raised pavement markers, vehicle detection replacement, and other miscellaneous work. The department will also repair streetlights in this section of the roadway, which will be paid for with local funding.
